In this section we summarise some key aspects of the ski instructor course. For more details please click here to see our ebrochure / download a pdf pack or print a copy.
Ski Instructor Training
All training is carried out by BASI Alpine Level 4 coaches so you are being taught by British instructors who have been through the same exams as you have. A number of our coaches are actual examiners with BASI so you will get first hand experience of what is being looked for in the courses that you will be taking during your 10 weeks.
Accommodation & Food
Students are accommodated in a chalet style catered environment. Breakfast and dinner is served 6 nights a week with the option of pack lunches if you want to take something up the hill.
Mentors
All students have a instructor mentor who will coach them on –snow and help their development over the 10 weeks. We also have an off-snow mentor who looks after student’s welfare.
Ski Jackets
We provide GAP freeride ski jackets for all students. The GAP jackets are provided by The North Face. The jacket will be available in women’s and men’s sizes and is BLACK for 2012. Please ensure you list your size on the form required.
After The GAP
We run a week’s ski instructor (Known as the Level 3 week) for students thinking about continuing with their instructor career. The course includes on – snow training and evening lectures aimed at preparing students for the Level 3 modules.
Physiotherapy
We work closely with the British Chartered Physiotherapy Clinic based in Courchevel and Meribel. All GAP students receive special discounted treatment rates. Past students have found their services fantastic especially in helping to prevent injury (sports massage) and in treating small injuries which have enabled students to continue with the course.

Travel to and from the resorts
Many of last year’s Gap students made their own way to and from the resorts, therefore this year the Gap package does not include flights. We recommend booking well in advance with one of the ‘budget airlines’ as tickets can be purchased for minimal cost. We can help students with their flight bookings and will try and co-odrinate students flying out at the same time. We can sort out transfers to and from the airport at the request of students.
Insurance
Insurance is compulsory for attending a BASI ski instructor course and before commencing the course your trainer will check that you are insured. You may use your own policy or use the BASI recommended Insurance. On signing up to the course you will be sent details of the BASI Insurance.
Upgrade Your GAP
Following feedback from last year’s GAP students we have put together a fantastic package of events which students can sign up for. The upgrade package includes on and off snow activities that offer the opportunity to fully experience life in the Savoie region without breaking the bank. The Package includes all transport and entry fees. More details will be available at time of application.
Ski Buying Guide
We often get asked to recommend skis for the course. we are always cautious when making recommendations as it is such an individual thing. However we are lucky enough to have a Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Ski Tester (dave Meyer) on the team so we will send all students a list of recommended skis. Dave normally produces this list in September (after testing the new ski ranges!).
