Alpine Level 2 Instructor Training Course
This is the second part of the ski instructor qualification. With your
BASI ski instructor licence you can teach on snow in Scandinavia, Switzerland,
Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.
Pre-requisites
Before applying, students must have the following:
- Successfully completed the BASI Level 1 Instructor Course
- A thorough understanding of both the technical and teaching philosophy
of BASI
- Attended a refresher course every 3 years
- Valid first aid and emergency certificate (BASP or similar)
- 70 hours ski school experience with a BASI recognised snowsports
school
The training programme
This is a 10-day on-snow training and assessment course. Assessment
will be continuous throughout the course. The content is based on
the current Ski Instructor Course outcomes and includes on- and off-snow
activities:
- Technical skiing (practical). A thorough grounding in the ski instructor
technical syllabus (central theme)
- Ski teaching (practical). Training, analysis and practice of teaching
skiing using the progression skills from the technical syllabus
- Client care
Theory and off-snow content
- Safety and fitness for skiing
- Communications
- Lesson planning
- Technical consolidation
- Principles and practice of ski teaching
Outcome
Successful students will be able to ski to a competent level, and
have the knowledge, ability and understanding to safely teach Alpine
skiing up to and including parallel standard on marked pistes. Those
who do not reach the required level may be required to re-sit all
or part of the course.
Certification and Issue of your Ski Instructor Licence
A licence, which is renewable annually, can only be issued to students
who have fulfilled the following conditions:
- Successful completion of the BASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor Course
- Successful completion of the BASI Alpine Level 2 Training Course
- Have completed 70 hours ski school experience with a BASI recognized
snowsports school.
- Be a minimum of 18 years old
- Hold a current first aid certificate issued by an organisation recognised
by the Health and Safety Executive (the course must be a minimum of
two days long)
- Have completed the BASI Child Protection Module
- Have paid the current full BASI membership fee
- Have attended a revalidation/refresher course every year unless
they have attended another training course.

Ski School Experience
A minimum of 70 hours of ski school experience is now a pre-requisite
for attending an Instructor training module, i.e., must be completed
before attending the Instructor Training module. Ski School experience
may include any of the following:
- Understanding how bookings are taken and how people
are selected into different standards.
- Shadowing experienced Instructors delivering lessons
- Understanding how customer satisfaction is assessed and how dissatisfied
customers are dealt with.
- Understanding how the Customer satisfaction procedures improve Instructor
and administrational practices.
- Taking part in and understanding in house staff training for Instructors.
- Understanding how Snowsports Schools maintain Safety standards and
maintain their currency of good practice.
- Understanding the Risk Assessment process that Snowsport Schools
and Instructors take.
- Understand Accident and First Aid procedures including accident
reporting.
Students should provide a breakdown in writing of what
they have covered during their Ski School experience and this should
be signed by the Ski School supervisor.

First Aid Course

Course Dates and Fees
Please note that all course dates are on-snow dates and do NOT include
travel time to and from the course. All of the courses run on-snow
from Monday through to Friday and will start with a Sunday evening
briefing and registration.

BASI Membership
In order to participate in the Instructor Training course, students
are required to have up to date BASI associate membership. If the course
is successfully completed students can then apply to BASI for full membership.

Insurance
Insurance is compulsory for attending a BASI course and before commencing
the course your trainer will check that you are insured. You may use
your own policy or use BASI recommended insurance.

Note: This BASI/Fogg cover is only available BASI
members whose outward travel, immediately prior to their course, starts

Accommodation, Travel and Lift
Passes
Once your course is confirmed we recommend you sort out your flights
and accommodation. We are not a tour operator but we
have set up a deal with Pleisure holidays to try and help you out. Pleisure
