THE GAP PACKAGE - KEY DETAILS

Ski Training Programme
& BASI Courses

Details of the 10 week training programme and BASI courses are shown on the Courses Programme page. All training and exams listed in the programme are included in the GAP Package.

Accommodation & Food

Students will be accommodated in a chalet style catered environment. Breakfast and dinner will be served 6 nights a week with the option of pack lunches if you want to take something up the hill. Photos and more details of the accomodation will be available on our website soon.

For more details visit the Meribel or Courchevel pages.

Ski Jackets

This year we are providing GAP jackets for all students. One of the main reasons for this is feedback from students who wanted to be clearly identified as trainees with New Generation - especially when they were shadowing ski school lessons. In 2009 it will be compulsary to wear the jackets when taking part in shadowing.
The GAP jackets are being provided by The North Face. The jacket is known as the Decagon Freeride jacket and will be available in women’s and men’s sizes. Please ensure you list your size on the application form.

Travel to and from the resorts

Many of last year’s Gap students made their own way to and from the resorts, therefore this year the Gap package does not include flights. We recommend booking well in advance with one of the ‘budget airlines’ as tickets can be purchased for minimal cost. We can help students with their flight bookings and will try and co-odrinate students flying out at the same time. We can sort out transfers to and from the airport at the request of students.

Insurance

Insurance is compulsory for attending a BASI course and before commencing the course your trainer will check that you are insured. You may use your own policy or use BASI recommended insurance. We suggest that you get quotes from the following companies:

BMC www.thebmc.co.uk
The British Mountaineering Council offers an excellent Alpine and Ski Annual policy. For a small additional charge they will allow you to increase the cancellation and curtailment cover from £3,000 to £5,000 to cover more of the course cost.

Endsleigh www.endsleigh.co.uk
Their comprehensive wintersports policy offers cancellation and curtailment cover up to £5,000

We cannot stress too strongly how important it is for students to ensure that they are adequately insured, check that your policy covers you for the following:

- Off Piste Skiing and any other activities in which you may wish to participate
- Medical Expenses - recommended up to £10,000,000
- Repatriation
- Rescue and Recovery
- Personal Liability - recommended up to £2,000,000
- Cancellation and Curtailment - recommended up to the value of the course plus accommodation and travel
- Personal Belongings - please check the max amount per item is sufficient

We would also recommend that you check the policy excess that you would pay if you needed to claim. Some companies allow you to waiver against this for a small additional fee.

UPGRADE YOUR GAP

Following feedback from last year’s GAP students we have put together a fantastic package of events which students can sign up for. The upgrade package includes on and off snow activities that offer the opportunity to fully experience life in the Savoie region without breaking the bank. The Package includes all transport and entry fees. More details will be available at time of application.
(Please note - The Updgrade Package is subject to sign-up numbers)

Après Ski at the Rond Point in Méribel
The Rond Pont is infamous for its mad apres ski. The Tasty (but dangerous!) toffee vodka will have you crowd surfing before it is even dark - need we say more!

Park and Pipe clinic
Experience the exhilaration of park life with our freestyle instructors. Before you know it you will be spinning, grinding and catching some big air with the Pros.

Freeride clinic - Steep and Deep with our resident freeride specialists.

Bumps clinic - Zip line heaven.

Courchevel’s Luge run (Sledging)
A 300m vertical descent at night through the Courchevel tress, followed by a warming vin chaud, is an experience not to be missed.

Savoyard Evening
Sample the delights of the local savoyard cuisine. Cheese, meat, ham, potatoes and Genepi (!) will definitely be on the menu.

Torchlight descent
Skiing in the dark with only a flaming torch to guide you is a once in a life time experience.

Ice Hockey Match
Ice hockey is fast and violent. Don’t worry - you won’t be playing - just watching the pro’s at work will get the adrenaline going!

Overnight trip to a mountain refuge
Probably the most popular trip on last year’s course. Spending a night in a mountain hut and watching the sunrise with your fellow gappers is a must. You will also get first tracks down the mountain before the lifts even open!

Parapenting
Get a bird's eye view of the Trois Vallees

Visit the Historic City Of Annecy
You can look round the historical town, or, let yourself loose in the fantastic shops.

Day trip to Paradiski
Experience an awesome off-piste day which covers over 5 resorts (Including Les Arcs and La Plagne)
