The
GAP Programme
The GAP course starts in January running
for 10 weeks and culminating in the BASI Alpine Level 2 Instructor Course.
New Generation Ski School is comitted to driving students forward to
meet their skiing goals. In the last 4 years 85% of all our Gap students
passed the final instructor's exam (everyone passed the Alpine Level
1 Instructor course).
Pre
- GAP Socials:
There
are 2 social events scheduled before the start of the winter season
which all GAP students are invited to.This is the perfect opportunity
to meet fellow ‘Gappers’ and the rest of the New Generation
team.
Surfing
in France (Sept ‘08)
All GAP students are invited to our ski school Summer
Session. We are planning a surf trip on the French coast. Details to
be posted soon.
The
London Ski Show (Oct ‘08)
For those who couldn’t attend the surfing we wil
be meeting up at one of the local bars on the last Saturday of the London
ski show. Students meet each other, the instructor mentors and the New
Generation Team.
Week
1:
Personal
Performance Course (Monday to Friday)
An exciting first week focusing on helping students understand
and develop their skiing. Off-piste, bumps, steeps and piste techniques
are all part of this course. At the end of the week students receive
a dynamic action plan to help them continue improving their performance.
Week
2:
BASI
Alpine Level 1
This
is a 5 day on-snow training and assessment course in which the following
subjects are covered and assessed:
- Skiing safely.
- Planning, conducting and evaluating an instructing session.
- Participating in an accident and emergency activity.
- Knowing and understanding how to improve personal skiing and instructing
performance.
- BASI methodology and progressions (Central Theme) and Beyond.
- The Skier's Code of Conduct.
- The Principles of Ski Teaching.
- The Structure of Snowsports in the UK.
- The Roles of Snowsport Agencies in the UK.
- Marketing and Promoting Snowsports in the UK.
- Dealing with accidents and emergencies.
All course materials are included.
Week
3 to 8:
Ski
School Shadowing & Technical Courses
Ski
school shadowing
You will shadow lessons at different levels with our top instructors,
learning the secrets of great teaching and actually getting involved
in the lessons. On average students will shadow 15 hours each week during
this period. Students keep a log book so that ideas can incorportaed
into future lesson plans.
Performance Clinics
Each week students receive ski coaching from our top New Generation
instructors to ensure they progress towards throughout the course.Monitoring
Your improvement
Mentor
Each student is allocated a mentor from the ski school. The mentor will
have regular meetings with the student to provide advice and encouragement
as well as providing a contact for any problems / issues encountered
during the course.
First
Aid Course
Two days of practical first aid training with the British Association
of Ski Patrollers. Successful assessment leads to the BASP qualification
(recognised with BASI and HSE).
Mountain
Safety Course
Students learn about avalanche awareness, using transceivers, snowpit
analysis and how to be safe in the mountains.
Child
Protection Module
A
new edition to the BASI programme in 2007. Completing the Child Protection
Module is necessary for qualification as a British Ski Instructor.
Careers
Seminar
Advice from experienced snowsports instructors on the options for moving
forward into a career in snowsports.

Links to ski schools worldwide to help you find employment and teaching
placements. We can provide references and help with CV's.
Week
9 to 10:
BASI
Alpine
Level 2
The
BASI Course consists of two weeks of continual training and assessment.
The 10 weeks of work on students' action plans, shadowing experience
and help from the mentors throughout the Gap Course will help drive
students to reach their final goals. On successful completion, students
will gain the BASI Alpine Level 2 qualification. The content of the
course includes:

Technical Skiing (practical)
- Ski Teaching (practical)
- Training, analysis and practice of teaching skiing using the progression
skills from the technical syllabus.
- Client care
- Theory and off-snow content
- Safety and fitness for Skiing
- Communications
- Lesson planning
- Technical consolidation.

Week
11:
After
The GAP
Many
students extend their time in resort by staying on for another week.
In this week New Generation will be running a week’s course which
introduces students to the modules that must be completed to gain the
next BASI qualification. Three key areas are covered:
- Technical, Teaching,
- APC race coach,
- Off Piste Mountain Safety
On snow clinics and off snow seminars
will run throughout the week to introduce and explain the course criteria.
At the end of the week students will receive an action plan to help
in them in their preperation.
