New 'Pay as you go' lift pass (10th Nov 2008)

The French are gradually catching on to the American way of doing things – first it was the hands free lift passes now we are seeing a move towards ‘only paying for what you use’ passes. Leading the way is the new pass from Holiski. Holiski covers 8 ski areas including Val d’Isere, Tignes, La Plagne, Les Arcs and Meribel. You pay an annual charge of 32€ and then pay only for the actual days you ski. For more information have a look at their website www.holiski.com.

Fire destroys La Daille apartment block (Oct 17th 2008)

Situated at the foot of the pistes, the Santel apartment blocks in La Daille are well known for their interesting architectural design by all Val d’Isere skiers. On the 11th October a residential fire spread rapidly though the block destroying 100 apartments. The amazing thing is that no-one was hurt in the blaze and that the surrounding blocks did not catch fire. The cause of the fire is not known but we wouldn’t rule out an electrical fault. To read more about the fire visit Valdinet.com.

New lifts (Oct 17th 2008)

Two new ski lifts linking Val d’Isère and Tignes have been installed / replaced over the summer. The Tufs and Marmottes chairs are now 6 person high speed chairs.  They reckon it will halve the time it takes to get to Val d'Isère which means only one things, more skiing time!
