New Generation Charity Giving

Where it all began.

Here at New Gen we want to create a team where people are willing and able to share and combine their talents and passions. The success of that community lies in the values based way we work together, how we approach the daily highs and challenges of running our business and fostering an environment of development and growth.

This drive for development and positive change is at the heart of everything we do, from working with our clients in the ski school to our instructor training programs, our own skiing and the way we run our courses. But it also goes beyond this. We want to create positive change in the industry in which we work but also in the world.
We need to let you know the money you spend with us will not only help you in your personal goals but will do some good to others too.

Wherever we can we invite people from our community to decide where and what we give to each month, and make sure that each impact matches an impact we’ve made in the school. This way all of our charity giving stays relevant, conscious and meaningful to us.

Making a wider impact outside of what we know best has been a new challenge for us; it’s providing a real sense of purpose and unity within the team. The unintended consequence of having clarity about who we are and the way we want to be has been on our ability to attract like minded people to New Generation.

Buy 1 Give 1

We’d been looking for a method of charity giving for some time when we came across an interesting organisation and method of individualised giving. Buy1Give1 (B1G1) is a Social Enterprise and a non-profit organisation with a mission to create a world that’s full of giving.

Unlike conventional giving models, B1G1 helps small and medium sized businesses achieve more social impact by embedding giving activities in their everyday business operation. Every business transaction (and as a result, your everyday activity) can impact lives, and from as little as just 1 cent. Through B1G1 we are linked to over 600 charities across the world and each month we chose a programme to support inspired by what is happening at the ski school at the time.

Because all of the money we donate goes directly to the projects we support we are able to measure the exact impact we are having. For example how many days of education we have provided, how many trees we have planted and so on.

Our Impact

We aim to stay actively engaged in the giving process by remaining flexible with how, when and to whom we give.  Our giving to B1G1 comes at no extra cost to our clients we simply select a cause that we feel is relevant at the time and donate to support it on their behalf.

For example, during half term holidays we have chosen to support children’s education project so that for every child who skis with us a child across the globe gets to attend school. In weeks where we have had a lot a women booked into our ski school we have chosen to support women’s rights projects on their behalf. At the start of the season, while all the staff at New Gen began to pack up our winter wear in preparation for the snow, we donated warm winter clothing to children in Ukraine so they too were prepared to face the winter weather.

Other Giving

As well as our work through B1G1 we work to support projects which are relevant to us or close to the hearts of the people in the New Gen team.

Some examples of this include the collection and donation of old uniforms and unused winter jackets from our instructors to refugees based in camps in Ventimiglia. These people, many feeling the conflict in Syria, were struggling to survive in the sub zero temperatures we rely on for our skiing and snowboarding. Being able to give them quality winter clothing and equipment was an incredibly rewarding experience for us and our teams.

We have also supported charities including I.D.E.A Onlus as requested by one of our instructors. This Italian medical charity is doing amazing work in Kenya and we were thrilled to be able to support project Akoro, Hungry in the local Kenyan dialect, providing nutritious meals to hospital patients in Karamoja.

We try to help where we can by donating free ski or snowboard lessons to charity auctions and are keen to find a way in which we can donate our time through volunteering as well as financial support.

We are humbled by the impact we have already managed to achieve through New Gen Giving and cannot wait to see where we can take it in the future.
