St Anton New Years Eve

New Year’s Eve – one of the most talked about evenings of the year. Also often ends up being a bit of an anti-climax.

Not when it comes to ski resorts though, and especially not when it comes to St Anton. World-renowned for it’s après ski and great nightlife even during quiet weeks, St Anton is a perfect place for New Year skiing. With the opportunity to ski the huge 280km ski area, you’ll also find special events in all of St Anton’s restaurants and après ski bars including live music, DJ’s and late openings for partying into the New Year. How to spend your final few days and welcome in 2019 (how did that happen?!) in Austria’s ski and party capital.

How to spend New Year’s Eve in St Anton

Moving on to the final day of 2018… Once you’ve enjoyed a day of skiing let’s get down to the serious business of the Austrian après ski experience! For the ultimate St Anton New Year’s Eve experience, head to Mooserwirt, Krazy Kangaruh or Taps.

Mooserwirt St Anton Apres

New Year’s Eve St Anton Après

One of the most famous après ski bars in the world, Mooserwirt offers you crazy lights show, smoke machines, a DJ and dancing on tables – oh and don’t forget the Jägerbombs. They also serve a delicious (and civilised) lunch from 11am before it all kicks off. The famous Mooserwirt can be found on the right side of the blue 50 home run back to resort, about 500m up from the village – you will most likely spot the umbrella bar and mass of skier pulling off to the side!

Krazy Kanguruh (KK) is on the opposite side of the Galzig piste from Mooserwirt just a bit higher up. It has a massive sun terrace that is hard to miss and they also serve a mix of international and Austrian cuisine, from 11 AM – 6 PM offering plenty to choose from no matter what you’re looking for. Rumour has it KK got pretty wild last New Years Eve so prepare yourselves. Just remember you still have a bit of a ski down afterward, so depending on how intense your après gets, it could be an interesting one.

Taps can be found connected to KK on the Galzig piste with happy hour from 3:30-4:30PM there’s no question the large beers will be flowing this New Years Eve. Get ready for the party to start where DJ Benny will be spinning all afternoon!

You can also access Mooserwirt, Krazy Kangaruh or Taps by getting the number 3 bus from St Anton village. Head to the main bus station or ask the tourist office for more information on how to do so.

Looking towards the bottom of the slopes. Basecamp can be found in the village just at the bottom of the ‘home run’, opposite the Gampen chairlift. This is a great spot to continue your après well past 8 PM with a live DJ who keeps the party going and also serving great homemade food. Music will be thumping even at 3 PM and well into the night.

Another, perhaps slightly more low-key, après bar is the Underground. This quirky institution in St Anton has been around for over 40 years and is the perfect place to cosy up and enjoy their easy-going live music with sing-alongs every day. The Underground can be found on the piste at the bottom of Galzigbahn.

St Anton New Years Eve

The firework-free New Year’s Eve celebration aims to provide a spectacular show whilst remaining environmentally conscious (win-win we say!). Entry is free but the organisers encourage guests to donate money and “support [them] to make the world a better place”. Instead of investing in fireworks, which are full of chemicals and scare away the animals this offers an incredible alternative which greatly reduces noise, air, and soil pollution.

The music mix will be provided by Joakim Borg and Johan Onehold.

Charity revenues: all revenues from beverage sales benefit the following institutions:

  • Youth Club Holmebase
  • SCA Newschool

In 2017, more than € 3,500 was collected for youth work in St. Anton.
