I was born in Herefordshire and grew up in the desert heat of Doha, Qatar, where the only skiing available to me was of the water variety. As soon as I returned to the UK for sixth form however, I began to visit the Alps every winter to ski. After studying Economics & Politics at the University of Bristol I did my first winter season working as a chalet boy in Austria. I subsequently trained as a lawyer and worked in the City of London for seven years. Seeking a change, I was drawn back to the Alps on a longer term basis three years ago when I did instructor training with New Generation here in Verbier. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to teach skiing in Italy and Austria as well as in Verbier. I keep up the lawyering in the summer months alongside travel to some warmer places, and I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible, be it sailing, running, cycling or competing in the occasional triathlon.
Skiing can be a difficult sport: be proud of yourself for taking a lesson and putting in the effort to try to improve at it. And don’t forget to treat yourself, whether on the slopes or after a day’s skiing – you’re on holiday after all!
