Marco Furio

Ski Instructor, Val d’Isère

My Story

My passion for skiing started with family holidays that led me to join a local club on an outdoor dry ski slope in Shropshire. The slope was only long enough for around 8 turns but that didn’t stop me from continuously lapping around run after run. As my skills improved my passion grew and I began to travel to compete on various slopes across the country. I raced as a member of the England artificial squad for three years before moving onto alpine racing on the real white stuff.

After six years of dedicated ski racing, I began working as a race coach/instructor in Australia and Europe. I am extremely proud to have worked as a program leader and to have provided race and coaching support for the children’s GB team. I now have 9 full seasons experience under my belt and hope you will join me on my 10th!

Top Tip

Look after your equipment; a waxed ski with a smooth and sharp edge makes learning much easier. Plus, you’ll be able to glide straight past everyone on the flats with a smug grin on your face. When driving down an icy mountain road, it is reassuring to know your car is fitted with snow tyres and fully functional brakes. The same concept can be applied to skiing. The sport is about learning to trust your equipment and its capabilities, as well as your own.
