Following our ‘learning to ski’ series of blogs, we thought it about time we gave you the lowdown on learning to ski in Villars, Switzerland.
Villars, less commonly known than some of its larger Swiss counterparts, was pegged as one of Switzerland’s top 10 ski resorts by the Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Magazine and named as the best resort for beginners, and we couldn’t agree more. Here’s why…
Accessing the beginner ski area couldn’t be easier with the mountain railway taking you right into resort. After enjoying the scenic journey all you have to do is jump off of the train at Bretaye, walk past the New Gen meeting point (fighting the urge for a coffee at Cookie Café) and you are in perfect first-time skier terrain.
Once you’ve mastered the basics it’s onto the magic carpet followed by a very beginner friendly button lift and a super gentle blue run. No nasty surprises here if you are a nervous new skier!
From here you are free to explore the mountain with some really cruisey blue runs accessed by the Lac Noir button and chairlift. This is the real appeal of learning to ski in Villars. You can start skiing up at the top of the mountain straight away, unlike so many other resorts where you are limited to a specific learner area in the village. There is also a great blue run all the way down the mountain to the bottom of the Roc d’Orsay bubble where conveniently you can reward yourself with a cracking burger from Tom’s burger bar!
With such a lot of great beginner terrain (over 40% of the resorts’ runs), Villars really is an excellent place to learn to ski. You’ll be hooked for life! If you still need convincing then there are even more beginner slopes in nearby Gryon and Diablerets, AND if you are planning on bringing the whole family, kids under 9 ski FREE!
For reasonable ski hire in Villars pop along and see the friendly folk at the Sports House, where you’ll get up to 50% discount as a New Gen client.
