In Tignes there is a Pop-Rock concert in Le Lac… the highest dance floor in Europe! It’s on the snowfront outside the Maison de Tignes. Followed by tha annual New Year fireworks. You can then make your way to one of the many bars in Le Lac (loop or Queue de Cochon) or Val Claret (Couloir, and if you’re really crazy the Melting Pot) to continue the party.
Val d’Isere has a reputation for being a great place for a party, and as such New Year has certain pressures to deliver an epic. It won’t disappoint.
The festivities kick off on the 29th with the Snow Show, an action-packed evening including a freestyle show by the Valpark team, a torchlight descent and the first of many firework displays. The following evening children and us big kids can Yooner sledge down the floodlit Savonette. Even complete novices will be able to cut turns within minutes – lets hope so. Those looking for something a little more low-key, there is a gospel concert in the Val church.
Then on the big night, St. Sylvestre will be pedestrianised and decorated with ice sculptures, all things sparkly and plenty of opportunities for a cheeky vin chaud or hot choccy. There is also live music, bands and DJs to see off 2015 in style. All bars and clubs will have their own celebrations, but Val d’Isere tradition dictates that the masses clamber out onto the street to see in the New Year, and watch a fireworks display to rival all firework displays. If the fireworks for the opening ceremony skiing world cup are anything to go by, then these will be pretty awesome. Val d’Isere will not disappoint in bringing 2016 in with one heck of a party.
Get first lifts on New Years Day
While everyone else is sleeping off their hangover, we love to get out early and get first lifts. The pistes are usually empty and it’s a great way to start off the new year!
