If you’re considering a ski holiday in Verbier, you may be asking yourself, “Is Verbier good for families?” This is a common question from our guests, and we’re here to help you find the answer.
While Verbier is known for its lively party scene, we want to show you why it’s also an excellent destination for families and how you can make the most of your trip with your kids.
Family-friendly ski areas and slopes
Verbier is perfect for learning to ski and snowboard. It offers great options for beginners and children. There are two beginner areas in Verbier: Les Esserts and Savoleyres.
Les Esserts
Les Esserts has easy slopes and lifts, ideal for learning to ski or snowboard. In the summer, the area is a golf course, so you can imagine the open space with gentle rolling descents.
In Les Esserts’ beginner area, there are two types of lifts. One is a drag lift with a button-shaped seat that goes between your legs to pull you up the slope, standing up. Typically, these lifts are slow, and there is someone to help you get on and off them. The other one is a magic carpet. There are two magic carpets in Les Esserts.
You can take the free bus to Les Esserts or a shuttle from your accommodation. If you travel by bus, take line N°1 from Medran and get off at the bus stop named N°17/Ski Schools area.
If you’ve booked lessons with our team, your Instructor can meet you and guide you from your doorstep to the slopes.
If you are a beginner or planning a ski holiday with your kids in Verbier, our guide, “Is Verbier good for beginners?” will provide all the information you need.

Off-slope activities for all ages
If you’re not skiing, Verbier offers other experiences you can enjoy without hitting the slopes.
Ice Skating
Verbier has a beautiful outdoor ice rink that is highly recommended for a visit, especially on weekdays to avoid crowds. It is suitable for children from around 2.5 years old, as they have skates that can be attached to their shoes or snow boots, providing extra stability. The ice skating rink is free to use for everyone, and you can also hire skates on-site for CHF 5 per pair. Located in central Verbier, it is easily accessible.
Snowshoeing
Stunning mountain views with trails for all abilities, snowshoeing is a great option.
It’s free alone, but guided tours can range from CHF 50 to CHF 150.
The Ruinettes to Le Chaux Walk is our favourite trail. It’s an easy yet scenic route where we often spot paragliders against the breathtaking backdrop of the Combins massif.

Winter hiking
Another great option is to stroll through the Clambin forest. Start at Medran and walk to the Chez Dany restaurant.
It’s a 6km return walk via the Carrefour, a good stop for another drink.
Mont Fort Zipline
Ascend to Summit Mont Fort at 3330 meters via the cable car. On a clear day, the views of the Matterhorn are spectacular. You can purchase a pedestrian pass for the lifts, which is more affordable than a typical ski pass.
For those who crave adventure, opt for the Mont 4 Zipline instead of returning via the cable car. It is the highest zipline globally and the longest in the Alps. This is an unforgettable experience, particularly for non-skiers visiting Verbier.
The zipline descends from Mont Fort to the Col de Gentianes. You launch off over the Tortin glacier, gazing down at the ice while travelling at 130 km/h for an impressive distance of 1.5 kilometres.

Dog sledding
A trip through the forest on a sledge, led by a team of huskies, is a unique way to explore the snowy landscapes of Verbier. If you’re after a magical forest experience, check out La Tzoumaz. Dress warmly, and remember your phone for the photos!
Prices range from approximately CHF 120 to CHF 200 per person.
Sledging to La Tzoumaz
In the Savoleyres area, you can experience one of the longest toboggan runs in French-speaking Switzerland. The run features a vertical drop of 711 meters, ensuring thrills as you glide between Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz. Remember to wear a helmet, gloves, and goggles, as snow has a tendency to get everywhere.
This activity is recommended for older children, aged 7 and up, and you can share a sledge with them.
The park/playground
Located just between the post office and the Shed Hotel, it has swings, slides, and climbing frames, and in the winter, there is snow, making it a great spot for snowman building. If you’ve exhausted the possibilities of the Verbier park, then why not head down to Le Châble? Right next to the cable car station, it is an exciting and adventurous park for both young and older children, and let’s face it, the cable car ride down is exciting in itself.
Duck pond
A great adventure for little ones- Jump on the number 2 bus (Le Hameau) to Les Esserts, and head down to the pond for some fun. Spot the ducks, pack a bottle of bubbles, as this is a great spot for a bit of bubble catching in the fresh air, and there is also space to run around at Le Hameau.
Indoor climbing wall
The sports centre has an area with a crash mat for little ones to climb without needing a harness (harness CHF 4, shoes CHF 4). and is generally a great indoor activity on a whiteout day. Children love the challenge, and it gives you a chance to stay warm and dry.
Salle de La Comba and Tourist Office activities
During holiday weeks, the tourist office organises various indoor activities for children, including bouncy castles, circus activities, and more. Each holiday week features different activities that are generally suitable for toddlers and older children. You can find the dates and more information here.
Ferme du Soleil
In Medieres, you’ll find the Farm du Soleil, a café that features a small outdoor play area with ride-on cars and animals.
What more could you ask for? You can either take a stroll along Route de Medieres or catch the bus to get there. There’s also parking available at the farm, as well as a lovely walking path and an open library nearby on Route du Soleil.
Swimming
There is an indoor swimming pool at the Mondzeu building (Chemin des Vernes 8). The entry is free for children 5 and under and CHF 6 per child for children 6 and over. This is really central and good fun for all ages.
Cinema
The Verbier Cinema at Place Central often has films for children showing in French and English. Here you can find the cinema program.
