Skiing in Meribel

Meribel offers over 300 marked runs, and 160 modern ski lifts, ensuring an unforgettable experience for skiers of all levels. As part of the largest connected ski area in the world, Three Valleys, Méribel gives you direct access to neighbouring resorts including Courchevel, Val Thorens, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, and La Tania.

This resort is perfect for intermediate skiers, with tons of well-groomed green, blue, and red runs. Beginners can take it easy on the gentle slopes of the Altiport area, while advanced skiers and snowboarders can tackle the challenging off-piste and freeride terrains, especially around Mont Vallon and the Saulire couloirs. With a great mix of slopes, high altitude, and reliable snow conditions, Méribel is an awesome spot for a winter getaway.

But it’s not all about skiing! Méribel has a lively nightlife scene with plenty of bars and clubs like La Folie Douce, where you can enjoy some fun après-ski. The resort is also family-friendly, offering great slopes and activities like tobogganing, snowshoeing, and snow parks for the little ones.

On average, Meribel receives 325cm of snow annually. Meribel is also a relatively high ski resort, so snow is rarely a problem until springtime. The snow is well managed in the spring however, slopes that are south-facing do get affected by the sun. This is not often problematic as Meribel is such a large resort that even with one run closed, there are always plenty of options to still move about with ease.

Méribel ski resort has some excellent slopes perfectly suited for beginners.

The Altiport:

The Altiport area offers gentle, wide runs ideal for practising those first turns. This entire ski area is dedicated to learning, with slopes designed to build confidence and hone skiing and snowboarding skills in a safe space. For total beginners with tired legs, it’s possible to ski these green runs and then take the cable car down at the end of the day.

Mottaret Centre:

In Mottaret Centre, there are two magic carpet zones for complete beginners that are accessible by foot. Once comfortable on this terrain, beginners can then take the Coombes chair lift to mid-station and enjoy a long green run down through the Yeti park, all the way back to Mottaret centre. For those feeling a little adventurous, continue to take this green run all the way down La Truite into Méribel centre.

Méribel has some exhilarating options for ski experts.

Roc de Tougne:

With only red and black runs down this lift, it’s a great area for advanced skiers.

Mont Vallon:

Head up the Mont Vallon cable car and experience the incredible perspective of the mountains from the top of Mont Vallon’s 2,952m peak. It’s recommended to visit on a nice weather day, as it can get quite windy at the top.

It can be difficult in a new ski resort to understand what specific ski areas are suited to you and your group level. Our team of New Generation Ski and Snowboard Instructors know the Méribel valley incredibly well, and will help you find the most appropriate terrain. Explore our ski lesson options to find what is right for you.

Meribel’s altitude is dependent on the particular village.

Meribel Mottaret: 1750m, Meribel centre: 1500m, Meribel Village – 1450m

At the highest levels (in terms of altitude) neighbouring Meribel is: Mont Vallon nearly tops 3000m (2952m to be precise) and other high peaks near Meribel include the Aiguille de Fruit (3051m), Dent de Burgin (2739m), Mont du Borgne (3153m), Roc de Tougne (2537m) and Rocher de la Loze (2526m).

If you have mastered the basics, you can enjoy the following options:

Chatelet:

head up to the top of Chatelet above Mottaret Centre and enjoy the wide blue runs all the way down from the top. If you’re feeling like a small freestyle challenge, pop into the park and enjoy the gentle rollers or the skier cross.

Tougnète:

From Méribel centre, jump on the Legends chair and continue to the top of Tougnète 2. Make your way down the swooping run called Faon. It’s the perfect blue run for intermediate skiers with a good gradient, some nice bends and wide pistes.
