What will you learn in our Off-Piste Snowboard Lessons?

Off-Piste Snowboarding Lessons Overview

Off-Piste Snowboarding is an incredible experience. Escaping the crowds, seeing the resort from a different perspective and hopefully finding some incredible snow will create memories that last a lifetime. However, it isn’t without its risks and having the correct safety equipment and knowing how to use it is essential. Never ski off-piste alone.

Our Off-Piste group lessons are perfect if you’re travelling alone or as part of a mixed-level party and don’t have anyone to snowboard off-piste with. You can spend a half or full day with a team of a similar level before joining back up with your group. We can provide all the safety equipment if you need it and, depending on your experience, will spend some time showing you how to use it. We run group lessons to our Off-Piste level 3 standard and ride some serious terrain. These aren’t just lessons for those new to off-piste skiing.

Private Off-Piste lessons are a great option if you’re travelling in a larger group of similar abilities or have something very specific you want to work on. We’ll tailor the data around you and your friends, helping you tick a few items off the bucket list.

Group Off-Piste Snowboard Lessons

Behind the fun, we know you want to build on your current ability and work towards your next goal. Our group lessons blend adventure and coaching while on the move. Our team will give you helpful hints and tips along the way but aren’t going to stop and do drills with you. It is rarely practical or safe. You’ll improve by being in the lessons and building comfort and confidence in new terrain. However, if you’ve got some really clear technical goals, these may not be the courses for you. You may prefer to focus on private off-piste lessons where it’s a one-to-one environment.

Private Off-Piste Snowboard Lessons

First and foremost, we want to ensure that you’re safe during your time with us. All our private off-piste lessons are run by experienced Off-Piste instructors. All guests must wear a transceiver and carry a shovel and probe. We’ll check that these are working at the start of every lesson. It is impossible to guarantee specific terrain, peaks or runs ahead of time. The instructor will assess the conditions daily and work within the safety limitations they dictate. We’ll snowboard on terrain that will stretch but not exceed your ability.

We love skiing and being in the mountains. The opportunity to inspire and support others as they work towards their own goals makes our jobs incredibly rewarding. Everyone’s interpretation of fun is slightly different, but for us, in this context, it is all about finding the best snow, riding it with a like-minded team and escaping the crowds. We’ll look to push you towards the edge of your comfort zone and challenge your preconceptions of what’s possible. Our off-piste group lessons aren’t Type 2 Fun slogfests, but if this is what you’re after, we can arrange private off-piste lessons.

Off-Piste snowboard lessons FAQ’s

We do our best to ensure that this doesn’t happen during the booking process. If your instructor feels that you are in the wrong group, however, we will do our best to move you into a more suitable level.

No. We are really proud of our diverse, fun and friendly international team. Boasting some of the best instructors from around the world. Hailing from England to Edinburgh, Austria to Australia, and everything in between. All of our instructors speak good English, and most importantly, they have extensive experience teaching in English. Many of our instructors are native English speakers but that’s not the only important factor we consider when we recruit our instructor team. Our instructors are carefully selected for their teaching ability, people skills, and passion for the sport, as well as their fluency in English. We think this makes our team a well-rounded bunch and it means that we also have other language skills should you require them.

Depending on which resort you’re heading to, requirements will vary. Refer to the ski school pages for resort-specific recommendations.

Yes, the groups can be mixed, but typically, our off-piste courses are more popular among skiers. Whether you have skiers or snowboarders in your group will not affect your progression.

Your backpack needs to be big enough to carry the list of items mentioned in our first FAQ. Roughly a 20L pack should be large enough, and it’s good to look for backpacks with a snowboard-carrying feature. This is particularly useful for any sections where we must take your snowboard off and hike up a steep pitch to access the off-piste terrain. Ellis Brigham has a good selection – look at suitable off-piste backpacks from Ellis Brigham.

Children aged 16 and over can join us on our off-piste courses. Please look at our off-piste levels to ensure they’re in the right group for their ability.
