Skiing Off Piste In Val D'isere On Our Intermediate Course

Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère is great choice for intermediate off-piste skiers. Le Fornet offer excellent tree line descents and areas such as Bellevarde have fantastic powderfields.

January typically has very reliable snow conditions helping us tackle terrain that would have felt out of reach at the start of it.

Val d’Isère village is well-connected, making it hassle free to reach our morning meeting point by the Solaise lift station.

What to Expect

This course covers crucial aspects of avalanche safety, snow conditions, and effective group management, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the challenges ahead. Here’s what you can expect to learn:

  • A brief refresher course on avalanche safety equipment.
  • How to dig a snow pit, with your instructor explaining the snowpack, showcasing the season’s layers and snow story to help you understand what’s under your feet—a vital skill for making informed decisions off-piste.
  • The skills needed to ski in the current snow conditions.
  • Applying those skills in variable snow while exploring and having fun on the best off-piste terrain.
  • How to use your turn shape to control your speed as you descend and learn to pick and ski your line.
  • How to ski safely off-piste.
  • How to manage a group.
  • Where to stop and regroup safely.
  • Line selection to minimise exposure.
  • Exploring the resort.

Who is it For?

This course is ideal for skiers who:

  • Can confidently ski moderate slopes off-piste (blue-red steepness).
  • Have a few weeks of off-piste experience.
  • Are able to link several turns in light powder (up to boot height) on a uniform base.
  • Can manage easy untracked terrain, preferring no obstacles, though may struggle to link turns in poor light.
  • Most off-piste skiing experience has been on easy slopes no steeper than a blue, often at the side of or between runs.

“Fun off piste course with an excellent instructor. Davide is an excellent guide who takes into account all the abilities of the group and plans just the right amount of challenges and fun. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Davide and New Generation and will be booking myself again soon!”
