Is La Tania good for beginners?

Read time: 3 mins

Yes — but it takes some planning.

Learn exactly where to start in La Tania (Kodiak nursery with two free magic carpets), which Pass (€38.50/day Minipass) to buy next, the gentlest way home (Plan Fontaine green through the forest), and a simple 3-day plan — plus how to use the free Courchevel buses if you finish away from the village. Plus, what to watch out for.

Is La Tania good for beginners? (the short answer)

Yes — La Tania is a great choice for beginners, especially if you plan your first few days well.

At the village snow-front, you’ll find the Kodiak beginner zone, a fully fenced, calm area with two free covered magic carpets (Brown Bear and Grizzly) — perfect for absolute first-timers. Once you’re linking turns, you can hop on the La Tania gondola but don’t ski down the Plan Fontaine green run yet—This long, forest-lined piste winds gently back to the resort. But has some very narrow sections.

If you’d like to explore more beginner-friendly greens, the Courchevel Mini Pass gives you access to special ZEN learning zones across the ski area— ideal for gradual progression without committing to a full 3 Vallées pass.

Where first-timers should stay (best bases in La Tania)

Stay in the village centre if you’re learning — it puts you just steps from the ski school meeting point, the Kodiak nursery area, and the cafés and restaurants around the snow-front. You’ll feel that ski-in/ski-out buzz from day one, even if you’re not yet venturing far.

Chalets or apartments higher up the hill may look tempting, but they can mean a steep or icy walk down to lessons — something best avoided on your first days in boots!

Start here — nursery zones and the Courchevel Mini Pass

La Tania’s beginner setup is among the most beginner-friendly in the 3 Vallées.

  • Kodiak snow-front nursery
Two free covered conveyors — the Brown Bear and Grizzly magic carpets — make learning easy and safe. It’s fully fenced, calm, and right beside ski school meeting points.
  • Mon Tania ZEN area (top of gondola)
Take a one-way gondola ride for an early “up the mountain” feel in a safe, gentle area. It’s a brilliant next step after mastering snowplough turns at the base.
  • Courchevel Mini Pass (€38.50/day for 5–75 yrs, 2025/26)
This special beginner pass covers green-piste networks across Courchevel, letting you practise affordably before upgrading to a Local or 3 Vallées pass.

Easy runs to try after day 1–2 (progression plan)

  • Once you’re comfortable on the nursery slope, take the Bouc Blanc Chairlift up, then ski Loze Est in Courchevel 1850. There you will find some greens to practice and gain more confidence..
  • Tired late afternoon? No problem — download by gondola or take the free Courchevel bus instead of tackling the steeper blue Folyères, which can feel narrow for nervous skiers.

Lessons that work (and where to book)

If your day finishes somewhere other than La Tania, no stress — Courchevel’s free shuttle network connects all main villages (La Tania ↔ Le Praz ↔ 1550 ↔ 1650 ↔ 1850). Buses run frequently all day and late into the evening, so you can explore or return easily.
