Val Thorens isn’t only Europe’s highest ski resort, but also one of the most family-friendly. If you are looking for activities for kids in Val Thorens, you are in the right place. We’ve gathered recommendations from local childcare experts Little Peaks Childcare, plus insider tips from families who live and work here and drawn on real-family insights to bring you the best kid-friendly adventures in the Alps.
Little Peaks Childcare is dedicated to supporting families visiting the resort. The team at Little Peaks experiences Val Thorens through the eyes of children every day. They understand how essential it is to find activities that keep everyone happy, both on and off the slopes. In Val Thorens, there is no shortage of fun to be had, whether it’s a sunny bluebird day or a snowy whiteout. Families will always discover something enjoyable to do.
Here are a few of their personal favourites, along with other expert-backed recommendations from childcare professionals and our guests.
Activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers (Ages 1-4)
1. Snow gardens and play parks
On Place Caron, at the heart of the resort, there is a free playground area.
There is a cable car playground equipped with two slides not far from the older toboggan run (The Star Train).
These mats remain open until 19:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays starting February 14.
2. Indoor fun
Soft play and toy corners at the sports centre (Le Board). Perfect for those whiteout days, the soft play area inside Le Board Sports Centre offers a reprieve from the cold. Providing a warm, safe environment for little ones to explore, it’s ideal for burning off energy indoors. Plus, it’s free for under 3s, making it a great option for the youngest children in our care.
The fun park is open every day from 10am to 19:45pm and it has spaces for all ages.
For toddlers, there are motor skills and discovery areas with modules and young kids have a secure course in a structure with slides, ball pool and more.
3. First ski lessons
Structured, age-appropriate lessons make those first turns both fun and confidence-boosting. For more information, check out our group lessons for young children to learn to ski.

4. Sled Dogs
Children can enjoy interacting with the animals and appreciating the beautiful landscape during the sleigh ride pulled by dogs. The sleigh ride is accessible for children starting at 2 years old, as long as they are accompanied by their parents.
5. Baby swimming
The Le Board sports and wellbeing centre offers dedicated baby swimming sessions in warm pools. With shallow areas designed for infants and toddlers, it’s a wonderful way to help little ones feel comfortable in water, keep warm indoors, and enjoy a calming activity.
