It’s hard to think of a better place to spend Christmas than in the mountains. Snow outside the window, hot chocolate in hand, a fire lit and meals prepared for you all week. That’s the way to spend a relaxing Christmas holiday. But on top of that, ski resorts are bringing a little extra Christmas cheer into town. Whether it be caroling, visits from Santa or the French favorite, a torchlight descent – there is something for everyone in each resort.

What’s on for Christmas in your Resort?

Christmas skiing


On 22nd December Pere Noel will be making an appearance by the lake in Le Praz. Then on Christmas Eve Santa will arrive in town in Courchevel 1850 down the piste. On skis? A sledge? A snowmobile? You’ll have to go and find out for yourself. (18:00)

Be sure to also check out the Light show on Place de Rocher. Each evening, every half hour (18:00-22:00) light murals and movies will be projected onto the rock and bell tower over Place de Rocher.

See a torchlight descent by the Club de Ski come down Folyeres piste on Christmas Eve.

Les Arcs

Celebrate at the magical Christmas village with Santa and his elves. At Place du Soleil – Arcs 1600, December 22 at 18:00. Santa also comes to town on his sleigh! Christmas Eve at 19:30 and will be followed by fireworks.

Christmas Eve mass will be held at 17:40 & 19:00 at Centre Bernard Taillefer in Les Arcs 1800.


Christmas Eve – If you fancy some Christmas music, head outside the tourist office for Christmas Carols. If you’re more into spending Christmas out on the town be sure to bring your ugliest Christmas jumper for the Bad Christmas Jumper Party at Jack’s Bar.

Don’t miss the annual favourite, the Christmas Day torchlight descent down the Doron piste.

And if you didn’t get enough of Jack’s Bar the night before, show up for Christmas Carols with Mikey Grey on Christmas Day.

Christmas arts & crafts for the kids – make snowflakes, window decorations, laters and more. December 22nd at 13:30-15:30 and 14:00-16:00. Free registration at the tourist office on Monday December 21 at 9am.

December 23 – See ice sculptures being carved outside the tourist office at 18:00.

And then get excited because Santa is coming to town! See him on Christmas Eve at 18:00.

Serre Chevalier

Santa will be whizzing through the villages of Serre Chevalier on Christmas Eve, using his horse-drawn sleigh in Briancon’s old walled town (a fabulous UNESCO World Heritage Site), flying in over the infamous Luc Alphand piste in Chantemerle, skiing down with anyone who wants to join in his torch lit descent in Villeneuve, and in our base Monetier he’ll be abseiling from the church in the village centre to to join his reindeers with hot chocolate, chocolates and fireworks!

Christmas Eve Carols & Mince Pies in the Piano Bar from 17.00pm

Christmas Eve Mass at the 16th century church in the centre of the village.   Thursday 24th December between 19.30PM and 20.45pm (free, but pre-book at the Tourist Office).

Christmas Day Bucks Fizz & visit from Father Christmas at the Piano Bar  13pm.


On Wednesday 23rd there’s a Christmas Market in Le Lac, L’Avenue Du Rosset.

Then on Christmas Eve there’s a street parade and Christmas Carols outside the Tourist Office and a Theatrical visit from Santa (!). Fireworks will be a Tignes le Lac snowfront at 19:00 along with an acrobatics performance that will be sure to entertain. Followed by Christmas Mass in the Church in the centre of town
On Christmas Day itself there are special Christmas menus across restaurants in Tignes and lifts open all day of course for a Christmas Ski!
And don’t forget throughout December the Christmas lights are on and, of course, there’s mulled wine on tap!

Val Thorens

Visit Father Christmas’ cabin & watch the show at the bottom of the pistes in the Village Centre.


Many of any of the restaurants will put on a special festive menu with champagne and traditional dishes on the 24th, so book in advance if you want to treat yourself to a meal out.


Enjoy local specialties at the traditional Christmas marketing in Villars. With free entertainment and concerts it is a great place for kids and adults. All day, Saturday December 19th.
